Download Quota in the UQ Library
On UQ Library workstations, internet access to UQ “Local (free)” websites will not count towards your student download quota (currently 200 MB per month). These sites currently include UQ hosted sites, most Australian universities, many leading research institutions, AARnet mirror sites, and the UQconnect Helpdesk downloads page.
General internet access to external websites, known as “Charged ” sites, will be via “Quotient” (the University’s traffic management system) and will count against your student download quota.
When you access an external “Charged” web page (for example www.google.com), you will be directed first to a UQ Login web page to authenticate against your Quota Pool,as shown below:

On the UQ Login page, there is also an “Unmetered Site Lookup” link to check whether a particular web page is likely to count against your student download quota.
After entering your username and password, you have two options:
- Press your keyboard ‘Enter’ key or click the “Quick Sign In”

button to take you directly to the website that you wish to access,
OR
- Click the “Sign In”
button to direct you to the UQ Login Pool Selection webpage that allows you choose the internet pool that you want to use.

After selecting the internet pool that you want to use, you will be forwarded to the external website that you have entered previously. This authentication is only required once per session, and all “Charged” websites that you access during your session will be charged against the Quota Pool that you selected at the beginning of your session.
A pop-up window will also appear, displaying your connection details, such as your Download quota and your connection status. There is also a logout link in this window, which can can be minimised to allow you to logout later. You will be automatically signed off when you log off from a Library workstation.
